Does bankruptcy permanently show up on your credit history?

It has been five years since I last filed for bankruptcy. Is there any way to erase it from my records?

A bankruptcy will fall off of a credit report anywhere from 7 to 10 years depending on which type of bankruptcy and whether the case was discharged or dismissed. Unless there is an error, there is not a way to erase it.

No. Bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for 10 years after your discharge. If it doesn't drop off at that point write to the credit unions pointing out the error and they'll remove it.

Bankruptcy will generally stay on your credit record for 10 years. As time passes and you have built up a good payment history, the effect of the Bankruptcy on your credit score is lowered.

You cannot erase a bankruptcy. As I am sure your lawyer told you, most bankruptcies stay on your credit report for ten years. They also stay on PACER, a public online system, forever.

Chapter 7 stays in your credit record for 10 years and Chapter 13 for 7 years. There is no way to remove anything from any credit report if the information is true and correct (no matter what those companies that "fix" credit claim). Most people who have filed bankruptcy have pretty good credit after five years so if your credit is not so good there must be another reason for it assuming you have attempted to reestablish credit after your bankruptcy and you income is good enough.

It will remain on your credit report for 8-10 years. It will then be removed. There is no way to avoid this.

It can stay on your credit for up to 10 years. How much it affects it depends on you. Pay your bills on time, don't run your credit cards up, etc. and you will find your credit score improving despite the bankruptcy.

The fact that you filed for bankruptcy can now show on your credit report for up to 10 years. 5 years out of filing for bankruptcy your credit should be fairly good. It shouldn't matter that it says you filed bankruptcy as long as your credit score is back up.
