It's a matter of public record. You can call the clerk of the court with the case number and/or debtor's name and ask them. If you have access to PACER [Public Access Court Electronic Records] you can look it up on-line. Pretty much anyone can get PACER access. Do not play investigator, do it one of these ways so you don't accidentally violate the automatic stay ordered by the court. That would be a big mistake.

For chapter 13 there are designated trustees per district. For chapter 7 there are 3 or 4 per district, therefore you won't know who it is until you file and the court randomly assigns one to your case.

In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the trustee is randomly chosen from a panel of many trustees. Panel trustees are chosen on a rotating basis. A few days after you file your case, a trustee is chosen and notice is sent to you of the trustee's name and the date and location of the meeting of creditors. While some trustees have a reputation of being more difficult than others, most follow the same practice of asking the same questions and pursuing the same types of claims. With a properly prepared case, it should not really matter which trustee you would get. In a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, there is a standing trustee and his/her staff - you get the same one every time and in each of New Jersey's three districts (vicinages), there is one trustee - Marie-Ann Greenberg for Newark, Isabel Balboa for Camden and Albert Russo for Trenton. In rare cases, a trustee may have a conflict of interest and be disqualified - in that event, one of the other trustees would take the case over for them. If you are curious about someone else's existing bankruptcy, a call to the court clerk should allow you to find out who the trustee is if you have the case name and case number.
